AsiaFest is one of Edmonton’s largest Asian night markets, held annually at Currents of Windermere. Founded in 2022, the event brings together food, culture, performances, and community in a vibrant festival inspired by traditional Asian night markets.

Our Story

AsiaFest began with a simple idea.

In September 2022, a small group of newcomers and long-time immigrants came together with a shared goal — to introduce more Asian culture to Edmonton, create opportunities for small businesses, and celebrate the Mid-Autumn Festival in a meaningful way.

At the time, we had no funding, no connections, and no event experience. What we did have was a strong belief in community, and a desire to build something that felt like home.

The very first event, originally called Taste of Asia Night Market, featured just 10 vendors — 4 food booths and 6 merchandise vendors.

Despite its small scale, the response was overwhelming. During a time of COVID when there were limited events in the city, the night market quickly gained attention. Food vendors sold out on the first evening, and merchandise booths followed shortly after.

That moment confirmed what we believed from the beginning — Edmonton was ready for something like this.

Growth Over the Years

AsiaFest has grown significantly each year:

  • 2022 – 10 vendors (launch year)

  • 2023 – 20 vendors

  • 2024 – 50 vendors (Japan-themed festival)

  • 2025 – 100 vendors (Southeast Asia theme)

  • 2026 – Expected 120+ vendors (Mid-Autumn Festival theme)

The event has expanded in both size and programming, introducing cultural themes, live performances, and viral food competitions, including popular eating challenges.

Our Mission

We aim to:

  • Celebrate and promote Asian culture in Edmonton

  • Support local entrepreneurs, especially newcomers and small businesses

  • Create a unique night market experience for the community

  • Bring people together through food, culture, and shared experiences

Community Impact

AsiaFest is organized by the AsiaFest Alberta Association, a nonprofit organization run entirely by volunteers.

All proceeds from the event are reinvested into community initiatives. In 2025, AsiaFest supported a free movie screening for the Deaf community in Edmonton, and continues to explore ways to give back and create inclusive experiences.

In addition to the annual night market, AsiaFest has also organized other events such as Lunarlicious, a Lunar New Year celebration featuring over 70 vendors in 2025.

Rebranding

The event was originally known as Taste of Asia Night Market in its first two years. In 2024, it was officially rebranded as AsiaFest to avoid confusion with other established events in Edmonton, including Taste of Edmonton.

Recognition & Support

AsiaFest has been featured by local media and recognized by the City of Edmonton as one of the city’s largest night markets.

The event has received support from:

  • City of Edmonton

  • Government of Alberta

  • Alberta Culture Days

  • Corporate sponsors including RBC, BMO, Lee Kum Kee, Sysco, Mercedes-Benz, and Servus Credit Union

Looking Ahead

From a small 10-vendor market to a large-scale cultural festival, AsiaFest continues to grow with the community.

What started as a way to feel closer to home has become something much bigger — a place where cultures connect, businesses grow, and memories are created.
