Kryptonite’s Secret Sauce: How AsiaFest Helped a Home Recipe Become a Business Sensation

When Kryptonite joined AsiaFest for the first time two years ago, they weren’t planning to become one of Edmonton’s most in-demand marinated meat vendors. In fact, they never even imagined it.
From Family Recipe to Foodie Favourite
What started as a casual bet between two kitchen coworkers quickly turned into a full-fledged business. “We basically started it as a joke, to be honest,” they laughed. “I was working at a retirement home, and after trying a marinated meat product from a coworker, we said, ‘We can do this better.’”

That playful challenge sparked a journey built around a treasured family recipe: Chicken Inasal, passed down from one of their grandfathers. With a few tweaks to suit Canadian ingredients, the recipe became the foundation of Kryptonite’s now-growing product line.
“We started with just 5 kg,” they recalled. “We weren’t even planning to sell it—just gave it to friends to try. But then people started asking to buy it, and next thing we knew, we were making 25 kg, then 100 kg, and then… it just didn’t stop.”
Since then, they’ve grown their product line to eight flavours of marinated meats, thanks in part to the feedback and exposure they received at community events like AsiaFest.

Kryptonite Meets AsiaFest
Kryptonite’s debut at AsiaFest marked a turning point in their growth. “After joining AsiaFest and Lunar New Year events, we became way busier,” they explained. “We were not just selling food — we were introducing people to our brand and testing products in real time.”
AsiaFest gave them a platform to talk directly with customers, collect feedback, and build relationships. “Because of the events, we were able to ask for live feedback — like, how do you like this flavour? What should we improve? That really helped us evolve.”
They also found inspiration through connection. “We got to talk to other vendors and meet people from different backgrounds. We learned a lot, and that helped us expand our lineup.”

Beyond the Market Tent
Two years and three AsiaFest appearances later, Kryptonite is now preparing for its fourth time at AsiaFest this September. But their goals are even bigger.
“We still want to be involved with local events like AsiaFest — it’s part of our roots,” they said. “But we’re also now working to supply large retailers like Lucky Supermarket. We want to make our products more accessible to everyone.”
Their story proves that small beginnings — even as a joke — can grow into something meaningful with the right passion, persistence, and platform. As one half of the duo shared: “Don’t be afraid to take risks. Just keep going. Never put your head down — keep pushing.”
AsiaFest is proud to be part of that journey. From helping small vendors test the waters to building bridges with thousands of potential customers, AsiaFest continues to be more than just a market — it’s a launchpad for local dreams.
